Arsenal Need To Hand Their Former Player And Legend A Role Even If There Isn’t One

Published

on

Marc Overmars has been given hefty praise for his part in the emergence of Ajax and it’s group of talented youngsters. However, the one man who’s name is missing from this mountainous praise fest is Dennis Bergkamp, who was personally and directly involved with the youngsters transition to the first team.

It’s no secret that because of their league form and performances in the Champions league semi final against Spurs, Ajax players have been linked as possible transfer targets for some of Europe’s top sides. Ajax won the Eredivisie in a hard fought campaign, which saw them keep PSV Eindhoven in second place.

More importantly, they played with style, flair and desire, mirroring the Ajax of years gone by, with an average age of 24, which is mightily impressive.

Bergkamp was taken under the wing of Ajax legend, Johan Cruyff and the former Arsenal striker has taken a similar role within the club.

However, the non flying Dutchman fell out with Overmars in 2017 and this led to his sudden departure from the club. The news that Bergkamp is now ready to resume his career in football, should have Arsenal queuing up for his services in any capacity.

Bergkamp would make a fantastic youth coach in the Arsenal academy or if we are still looking for a technical director, why worry about Edu. Bergkamp should come home where he belongs.

Now, before you start talking to me about experience, out of all the candidates, only Monchi had been in the same role for a credible amount of time and with someone like Bergkamp, it’s as much about who he is as what he knows.

What player in the world wouldn’t want to be in the presence of the Dutchman on a training pitch and take tuition from one of the most talented players of his generation.

To be honest, I never liked the idea of Overmars or Monchi in the role and the thought of Edu taking charge is distinctly underwhelming.  If they haven’t got the Brazilian to agree terms already, then I’d stop calling and begin blitzing Bergkamp’s Email on a daily basis.

The striker will not remain unemployed for long and although, Overmars has obviously been a factor in the development of the Ajax youngsters, is more inspirational than Bergkamp.

I once spoke to him on SM about the chances of coming back to Arsenal and asked him ‘if you had the chance to manage Arsenal, would you consider it ?’

‘At the drop of a hat’ was his reply.

Ok, so that role is already taken but, Arsenal need his talents in the club, somewhere, anywhere. If they can let Steve Bould earn a living by coaching the worst defence in Arsenal’s recent history, then they should snatch up Bergkamp.

Too many talents have been allowed to leave and have taken their experience and knowledge with them.

My message to Arsenal: Pay him what he wants and bring him home.

  • Chelsea have entered the congested battle to sign Genk midfield Sander Berge
  • Kylian Mbappe wants join Real Madrid and will snub contract offers from PSG
  • Arsenal have identified their long-term replacement for Granit Xhaka

Tahith Chong swap

Juventus are plotting a swap deal to sign Manchester United winger Tahith Chong.

Chong, 19, has just over seven months remaining on his Old Trafford contract and is reportedly interested in leaving the club.

The Netherlands Under-21 international has caught the attention of Juventus, who are hopeful of snapping up his signature for free next summer.

However, Italian publication Corriere dello Sport say the Serie A champions have another idea – and that’s to include him in the deal for Mario Mandzukic.

Sander Berge latest

Chelsea have entered the congested battle to sign Genk midfield Sander Berge.

Liverpool are leading the chase with the player openly revealing his desire to play at Anfield in the future.

But despite his preference to play for the Premier League leaders and a personal chat with manager Jurgen Klopp after a recent Champions League encounter – Frank Lampard’s side are interested.

Chelsea’s two-window transfer ban could be lifted after tomorrow’s hearing at the Court of Arbitration and Berge could be their first January arrival.

Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe wants to join Real Madrid.

That’s the audacious report from Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, who claim the French international will reject any contract proposals from PSG.

The 20-year-old superstar joined PSG for £165million in August 2017 and has since become the most valuable player in world football – reported to be worth £342million.

He’s contracted until June 2022 but El Chiringuito claim his mother and agent has confirmed that no contract offers will be entertained.

  • Man Utd and Arsenal are set to battle it out for Parma star Dejan Kulusevski
  • Denis Zakaria will not be leaving Borussia Monchengladbach in January
  • Arsenal have identified their long-term replacement for Granit Xhaka
  • The Gunners are looking to sign RB Salzburg teenager Dominik Szoboszlai

Wanted: Dejan Kulusevski

Manchester United and Arsenal are set to battle it out for Parma playmaker Dejan Kulusevski.

Kulusevski, 19, caught United’s eye by chance when the club’s chief scout flew to monitor Chris Smalling’s progress at Roma.

The Sweden international, who earned his first international cap against the Faroe Islands on Monday, has scored twice and provided five assists in 12 Serie A appearances.

Unai Emery’s Gunners are also interested in the winger, who is expected to cost £40million.

No deal for Denis Zakaria

Denis Zakaria will not be leaving Borussia Monchengladbach in January.

That’s according to his agent, who has responded to reported interest from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

“Denis will not leave Borussia in the winter, a change is 100 per cent excluded,” agent Mathieu Beda told Sport BILD .

“Denis is in very good shape in Gladbach and has been playing really well for weeks, but he still has more potential and he wants to show that in Gladbach now instead of dealing with a change.”

Dominik Szoboszlai identified

Arsenal have identified their long-term replacement for Granit Xhaka.

Xhaka, 27, is expected to leave the Gunners having been stripped of the captaincy after telling fans to “f*** off” as he was jeered off against Crystal Palace.

And Football Insider claim RB Salzburg teenager Dominik Szoboszlai has been chosen to fill his boots.

The versatile midfielder has been on Arsenal’s radar for quite some time and scouts are planning to watch him when Hungry take on Wales tonight.

Arsenal development

Luis Enrique isn’t keen on taking the Arsenal job should Unai Emery be sacked, according to reports.

The former Barcelona manager left his post as Spain manager earlier in the year, choosing to walk away from the hotseat at a time where his nine-year-old daughter was dying of bone cancer.

He’s been tipped to return to management with Arsenal amid the struggles of Emery, who is fighting a face to keep his job.

But ESPN claim that Enrique isn’t keen on returning to management just yet.
