Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explains why he won’t be wearing a suit on the touchline anytime soon

Jurgen Klopp’s jovial and charismatic nature has made him one of the most popular figures in the Premier League.

While many bosses in England’s top flight sport a suit on the touchline during games, Klopp prefers to wear a tracksuit instead.

The Liverpool boss explained the thinking behind his casual matchday attire in an exclusive interview with Reshmin Chowdhury ahead of his side’s clash with Newcastle on Saturday, which is live on talkSPORT.

“I have a suit for weddings, funerals and if somebody tells me I have to wear a suit. For me it’s not ideal,” he said.

“I have no reason to wear one. I don’t feel comfortable in it and I cannot breathe properly.

“I don’t want to have to think about my outfit before a game, so I’m really happy that the kitman can give me something that I can jump into.”

Klopp did wear a suit on occasions during his stint at Borussia Dortmund, as well as in the Europa League during his first season at Liverpool – 2015/16 – but maintains there will not be a repeat of that in the future.

“When I first started in the Champions League I wore them because I was told by somebody it was a duty,” he added.

“But from the first time I saw another manager next to me not wearing a suit, I was done.
