Manchester United have made a perfect start to pre-season ahead of what promises to be an enthralling 2019/20 season.

Fresh off a disappointing Premier League finish, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer set about revamping his squad so the Red Devils were in a far healthier position.

In came Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes also top targets.

United embarked on a pre-season tour to Australia, which saw them beat Perth Glory and Leeds United with consummate ease but the level of competition is about to be raised.

Solskjaer’s side will now compete in the the International Champions Cup – a competition which may be their best bet to secure silverware this season.

The Red Devils take on Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan – a side also in a period of transition.

Team News

David De Gea and Luke Shaw both missed the win against Leeds with a virus and a hamstring injury respectively. However, both have made full recoveries so should be able to feature against Inter.Romelu Lukaku will definitely play no part, with Solskjaer confirming the striker has once again missed training with an injury, as rumours of a move to Inter gather momentum.

The Belgium striker has been linked with a move to the San Siro all summer, with boss Anonio Conte a huge fan.

Having missed the Red Devils’s victories against Perth Glory and Leeds while United and Inter wrangle over a fee for the 26-year-old, United’s boss confirmed this morning Lukaku will sit out once again.

Asked whether the Belgian will be in the squad, Solskjaer bluntly said: “No he is not fit, he won’t be available no.”

Brazilian midfielder Fred could play some part in the fixture after his Copa America exploits earlier this summer.

New signing James has started both of the club’s pre-season matches this summer and could be rested, with the likes of Chris Smalling, Jesse Lingard and Nemanja Matic expected to come in for the Inter clash.

Greenwood has been outstanding during his two performances on the right, though, and it seems probable that the 17-year-old could keep his spot as Solskjaer considers his team selection for the clash with Chelsea on August 10.

LONDON — The venue was familiar. The vantage point was not.

Few people on the planet know Stamford Bridge better than Frank Lampard, who turned the West London stadium into his own back garden during a phenomenal 13-year Chelsea career in which he won 11 major trophies and became the club's record goal scorer.
