‘Mother of all comebacks!’: Fans go mad for K-League side Gangwon FC after they score THREE stoppage-time goals to beat rivals… and at one stage were 4-0 down with 30 minutes left!

  • Gangwon FC staged incredible fight-back to beat Pohang Steelers in K-League
  • Wanderson Carvalho’s hat-trick and Lee Seok-Hyun put the visitors 4-0 up
  • Jae Wan-Cho began comeback with 20 minutes left then Valentinos Sielis struck
  • Wan-Cho completed his own hat-trick with two injury-time goals for the hosts
  • Gangwon’s winner came in the sixth minute of added time from Jung Jo-gook

Gangwon FC mounted a nearly impossible five-goal comeback to beat Pohang Steelers in their K-League clash – with three goals coming in injury-time.

A Wanderson Carvalho double gave the visitors a comfortable lead and victory seemed assured when Lee Seok-Hyun added a third and Carvalho completed his hat-trick on 57 minutes.

It took another 14 minutes for Gangwon to strike back, firstly through Jae Wan-Cho and then former Arsenal and Tottenham youth-team defender Valentinos Sielis with 10 minutes to play.

WHEN THE GOALS WERE SCORED

39′ – 0-2 – Wanderson Carvalho

57′ – 0-4 – Wanderson Carvalho

90+2 – 3-4 – Jae Wan-Cho

90+4 – 4-4 – Jae Wan-Cho

90+6 – 5-4 Jung Jo-gook

Even as the game entered injury-time, seventh-placed Pohang appeared set for a comfortable victory – until Wan-Cho headed in from close range then smacked home a volley to level.

The best was yet to come, as Gangwon had appeals for a penalty denied then, when the subsequent corner was half-cleared a flying header from substitute Jung Jo-gook sealed victory.

Fans went mad for the unlikely comeback, with one Twitter user calling it ‘one of the most iconic collapses ever in the K-League’.

Another drew comparisons with Liverpool’s unlikely Champions League semi-final comeback against Barcelona which the Reds won 4-3, stating ‘Lol Liverpool v Barcelona who?’

Arsenal will not be competing with Tottenham in the transfer market

Published

on

By

The transfer window has been a funny one for Arsenal when you consider the financial restrictions that the club is allegedly under.

But there comes a time when one needs to be realistic.

The Daily Star, yeah I know, have run a headline claiming that we are set to battle it out with Tottenham for Dani Ceballos, who will cost £45 Million.

That is never going to happen for a whole host of reasons that is simply not worth getting in to apart from one, which is the focus of this article.

Arsenal cannot compete with Tottenham financially.

They can outbid us at will, we may not like that truth but there it is nonetheless.

They are not under financial restrictions at all, they made a mini fortune from their Champions League run, they have not spent a single penny in the last two transfer windows and the sort of player they are being linked with far surpass the value of the players we are apparently being linked with.

The thing that is most irritating is that us Arsenal fans accept this but for some ridiculous reason the media think we are idiots, what other reason would they believe they can splash headlines across their pages claiming that we are in a battle to sign a player that would cost us 100% or more of our transfer budget?

When I see headlines like that I basically ignore them and it is not just the usual fodder from the tabloids, have a look on google and see for yourself the so-called credible and respected sites and news outlets that make the same outlandish claims.

The bottom line is we are no longer in a position to compete with our bitter local rivals in the transfer market financially no matter what the media would like to make us believe

12.45 UPDATE: Newcastle latest

Newcastle have confirmed Rafa Benitez is leaving his role as manager this summer.

Benitez had been in talks over a new deal but failed to reach an agreement.

And the Toon will now be looking for a new boss amid the takeover talks with Mike Ashley.

A statement read: We have worked hard to extend Rafa’s contract over a significant period of time, however it has not been – and will not be – possible to reach an agreement with Rafa and his representatives.

Rafa’s coaching staff, Paco de Míguel Moreno, Antonio Gómez Pérez and Mikel Antia, will also leave the club on 30th June.

12.15 UPDATE: Emery wants Zaha deal

Unai Emery has told the Arsenal board to break the bank and sign him Wilfried Zaha.

The Sun report that Emery wants the electric winger to be his big summer signing.

And he wants the club to break their transfer budget to land him – despite only having £45m to spend this summer.

Zaha would cost upwards of £60m after another good year with Palace, meaning Arsenal will likely have to sell first.

09.50 UPDATE: Hazard will be a success

Ricardo Carvalho has backed Eden Hazard to shine at Real Madrid after completing his move from Chelsea.

Hazard has become the biggest mover of the window after joining Madrid from Chelsea and Blues legend Carvalho thinks he will do well.

“He’s a great signing,” he told Marca . “I know him well and I’ve no doubt that he’ll do very well.

“He’s going to have more space in Spain. He’s very fast, very strong when one on one and a team like Madrid with great players will help him.”

09.20 UPDATE: Liverpool should sign Zaha

John Aldridge has urged Liverpool to snap up Wilfried Zaha this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to add to his attack.

“Wilfried Zaha is the one I think he should go for,” he wrote in his Sunday World column.

“With Daniel Sturridge leaving the club and his huge wages coming off the weekly bill, it opens up the opportunity for Klopp to sign an out-and-out goalscorer who could offer something different if one of the front three is injured or out of form.

“Zaha has given Liverpool some real problems in the last couple of years and Klopp’s ability to turn talents of his type into consistent performers has to make him the kind of player who could thrive at Anfield.”

08.45 UPDATE: Aldridge thinks Coutinho return is a mistake

John Aldridge has told Liverpool to forget signing Philippe Coutinho back from Barcelona.

Coutinho has been linked with a move away from Barcelona after struggling over 18 months in Spain, but Aldridge thinks it would be a mistake to bring him back.

“Coutinho left on a sour note as he forced his way out of the club and while he is a great player, I don’t think Liverpool should blow their transfer budget on bringing him back,” Aldridge wrote for the Sunday World.

“None of us have forgotten that Coutinho left Liverpool in a difficult position when he jumped ship mid-way through the season, so we should not give him a simple route back to play for the European champions.

“We all trust Klopp in whatever decisions he makes, but I think adding attacking a top quality attacking option would be the way forward this summer.”

Thomas Lemar insists he is staying at Atletico Madrid.

Lemar was quizzed on his future after a difficult few months in Spain following his move from Monaco, but he stressed he wants to make things work out.

“I’m at Atletico and I’ll be back next season,” Lemar told beIN Sports.

”I still want to progress. I wanted to do it this season, I will try to do even better next season.”

08.00 UPDATE: Koulibaly drops cryptic message

Kalidou Koulibaly admits he’s unsure where he will play his football next season after links away from Napoli.

Koulibaly has been linked with Manchester United and Manchester City, as well as Juventus, but could still stay in Naples.

“I don’t know [if I’ll still be at Napoli next year], I think so,” he told Goal after Senegal’s 2-0 win over Tanzania in the African Cup of Nations.

“But I have to play the Afcon and then after that I’ll go back to Napoli.

“Everyone’s speaking about me, but I’m only speaking about Senegal, because that’s my objective today and I want to achieve something big with Senegal.”

07.35 UPDATE: Liverpool join Bruno Fernandes race

Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the race for Bruno Fernandes.

That is according to Italian journalist Pietro Balzano Prota, who claims Liverpool have ‘interfered’ with United’s move for the midfielder.

The Portuguese playmaker has four years left on his deal and is valued at £62.2million (€70m) by Sporting.

United have been described as ‘frontrunners’ for the 24-year-old but have faced stiff competition from Tottenham and Atletico Madrid.

07.15 UDPATE: Coutinho on Neymar return

Philippe Coutinho admits it’s always a pleasure to play with Neymar, as the PSG ace is once again linked with a move to Barcelona.

“To play with Neymar is incredible, he is a superstar,” Coutinho said while at the Copa America.

“I don’t know what will happen, but it’s always a source of happiness to speak about playing with him.

“He’s a player of another dimension and very important to any team he’s on.

“Nobody can deny his qualities and his massive talent, and we all know that.

“Right now, we don’t know what will happen but people are saying a lot of things.

“He’s part of the group and he has been with the group but we haven’t talked about this.”

07.00 UPDATE: Maguire makes decision

Harry Maguire is set to join Manchester City this week after turning down Manchester United.

Maguire will join City for £80m and will replace Vincent Kompany in the heart of Pep Guardiola’s defence.

He will battle John Stones and Aymeric Laporte for a starting spot and will become the most expensive centre back in history.

Maguire was on United’s radar but has chosen to join City.

06.45 UPDATE: Arsenal make Tierney decision

Arsenal do not want to get into a bidding war over Kieran Tierney.

The Celtic ace is their top target and they have seen a £15m bid rejected, but have made a second offer.

Celtic want upwards of £25m for Tierney but Arsenal are working with a reduced transfer budget of around £45m due to missing out on the Champions League so may have to sell before splashing out on the Scottish international.

Emery is desperate to overhaul his defence and Tierney would replace Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac at left back.
