Unai Emery press conference: Under-fire Arsenal manager calls on supporters to ‘help the team’ and insists players DO believe in him

Unai Emery has urged Arsenal’s supporters to visit the Emirates for tomorrow’s match against Eintracht Frankfurt with the aim of ‘helping the team and helping the players’.

Emery, the Spaniard, is under real pressure in north London and could soon lose his job if Arsenal’s results do not improve.

He will be hoping to get back to winning ways against Frankfurt in the Europa League, though the Bundesliga side will rock up at a stadium full of fans actively calling for their manager’s head.

And Emery has urged supporters to change their tune and back the team, otherwise opponents are bound to be ‘fearless’ at the Emirates.

“We know the last match we were disappointed and the supporters also,” said the Spaniard during his pre-match press conference. “My only focus is to show tomorrow our performance and connect with our supporters.

“We know our supporters are disappointed… it’s really, really our focus.

“Some teams are coming here fearless.

“My wish is tomorrow every supporter helps the team and helps the players.”

It is not only the fans who appear to have turned on Emery, however, with many of his players appearing wary of the under-fire boss.

Nonetheless, Emery insists this is not the case and says he retains the full backing of his squad.

“Yes of course,” he replied when asked if the players believe in him. “They show that.”

Emery also discussed other topics during his press conference, and you can read the best bits below…

On priorities for Thursday’s match

“We are doing a very good job in this competition but we need to make sure of first position in the table. Our second objective is to win and take confidence as well as connect with our supporters.”

On this tough time in his career

“As a coach each moment in my career is difficult. This is a very good but very hard job.

“When you are winning you feel the support for everybody.

“I believe in us, I believe in the players. I know I am going to work very hard to come back to the performance.

“I am looking forward to playing tomorrow. The good moment, the bad moment the most important for me is to show my work.

“Our confidence depends a lot on how we can feel in our stadium with our supporters. Teams are coming here playing fearless. We need to be strong and together. We need to show our supporters our capacity and skills.”
